Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G display gets China’s Institute of Metrology certification


Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, is getting set to release its second 5G smartphone (Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G) tomorrow in China. According to an official statement from the company, this smartphone comes with a professional-grade “primary colour screen”. In addition to the high screen ratio, it also meets the standards of “China Institute of Metrology”.

According to the institute, the ΔE (Delta E) refers to a test unit in which the human eye perceives chromatic aberration in a uniform colour feeling space. This is important for smartphones to ensure a measure of colour consistency. The Xiaomi mi 9 5G Pro has a ΔE value of 1.38. The smaller the value, the better for the human eye. Furthermore, the Institute claims that with a ΔE value between 3.2 – 6.5, the human eye has no issues with colours. With values from 6.5 – 13 the chromatic aberration is more obvious but the colour tone is still the same.

Founded in 1955, China Institute of Metrology is an affiliate of the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine. It is the highest scientific research centre in the country and a national legal metrology institute. It is also a social welfare research unit which mainly engages in scientific measurement and legal measurement.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G uses the flagship AMOLED screen covering 103.8% NTSC wide color gamut. This ensures that the basic screen quality is perfect. In addition, it uses a “primary colour screen management system”, which can convert colour space more accurately.
