While we await the official launch of the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G, a couple of information (official and unofficial) are hitting the web. This morning, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G will be much more expensive than the Xiaomi Mi 9. According to him, the price of 5G, as well as many new features that come with this device, influences the price. Now, an unofficial poster shows that the Mi 9 5G Pro will have two versions, 8GB+128GB and 12GB+128GB versions. According to the poster, these versions will sell for 3599 Yuan ($505) and 3999 Yuan ($561) respectively. If this is true, then this smartphone will be the cheapest 5G smartphone. As of now, the cheapest 5G mobile phone is iQOO Pro 5G which starts at 3798 yuan ($533).
Gizchina News of the week
If this smartphone starts at 3599 Yuan ($505) then it is not “much more” expensive than the Mi 9 like Lei Jun said. Recall that the Xiaomi Mi 9 starts at 2,999 yuan ($421). Realistically, the Mi 9 Pro 5G may not start below 3999 Yuan ($561). However, Xiaomi will want to beat iQOO and have the cheapest 5G phone in the market. We will have to wait until tomorrow to get the actual figure.
The Mi 9 Pro 5G will undoubtedly adopt Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC with an external Snapdragon X50 5G modem. In addition, this smartphone has the China Institute of Metrology certification for its primary colour screen, 4000 mAh large battery, eID electronic ID card, 1.04CC large sound chamber. Furthermore, this device also comes with a triple fast charge, and a large horizontal linear motor. All these features increase the cost.
