In recent times, there have been significant innovations on the display of smartphones. We have seen different types of notch display, magnetic slide display, dual-display phones, waterfall display, foldable display and most recently 360° surround display. The foldable and 360° surround displays are absolute luxury and not devices for the open market. Two major manufacturers (Huawei and Samsung) have released foldable phones but not without serious setbacks. After the announcement of the first-ever 360° surround display phone, Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha, Xiaomi’s President, Lin Bin, insinuated that foldable phones have more challenges than the 360° surround display technology.

According to him, the flexing of a foldable display without wear and tear is the main hindrance to the mass production of Xiaomi foldable phone. He further said that the MIX Alpha will use a glass-fitting technology. By December, the MIX Alpha will be sparingly available and the glass-fit tech will make it more beautiful than foldable phones.
From the statements by Lin Bin, Xiaomi’s foldable phone is still in development. In addition, Lin Bin said that the fall resistance of both foldable and 360° surround phones is very low thus it is difficult to mass-produce them. The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha comes with a 7.92-inch OLED 360° surround (2088 xm2250). It uses a Snapdragon 855+ SoC, 12GB of RAM, 512GB UFS 3.0 storage, Samsung 108MP main camera, and a 4050 mAh battery. This phone costs 19999 yuan ($2804).
