Since the iPhone X released in 2017, all iPhone are equipped with a screen surmounted by a large notch. This notch contains all the 3D sensors that allow Face ID to work. All of these sensors are called TrueDepth. In addition to the essential equipment for Face ID, the notch also contains a proximity sensor, a speaker, the microphone and the front camera. Now, it appears that Apple would have developed a prototype without a notch
According to a tweet from Ben Geskin, a famous leaker in the smartphone world, Apple would have found a way to do without the notch for the iPhone 12, expected in September 2020. “One of the 2020 iPhone prototypes has a 6.7-inch display with Face ID and TrueDepth camera system housed in the top bezel.” says Geskin. The leaker accompanies his tweet by a rendering of this iPhone 12 that looks rather attractive. Not surprisingly, this presumed prototype is completely covered with a screen and surrounded by thin borders.
