Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, is probably the cheapest 5G equipment vendor in the industry. While many countries want to do business with Huawei, the US is preventing some of them. Recently, Norwegian cabinet minister, Nikolai Astrup, stated that he does not intend to prevent Huawei from building the 5G network in Norway. Nikolai Astrup said: “We have a good dialogue with the telecommunications company on security, and then the company chooses its own suppliers. We have not banned any suppliers in Norway .”
Gizchina News of the week
Earlier in January, Norwegian Attorney General, Tor Mikkel Wara, said that he was considering a ban on Huawei. However, the Minister of Justice left the cabinet for other pressing issues. Telenor, Norway’s largest telecommunications provider, plans to choose a 5G technology supplier this year to prepare for the 2020 commercial launch. The company has 182 million users in eight countries across Europe and Asia. Telenor has a good relationship with Huawei. The company signed the first important contract with Huawei in 2009, paving the way for the company’s global expansion. In addition, Petter-Boerre Furberg, head of Telenor’s domestic operations, said: “The process we chose is open to all partners.”
It appears that Norway has not taken a decision on Huawei. However, the Chinese telecommunication company will do all it can to avoid losing more countries. According to Huawei’s CEO, Rei Zengfei, the company is ready to license its 5G to an American company. This would probably ease the clampdown on Huawei’s 5G equipment.
