A few days ago, Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, held the Mate 30 series conference in Shanghai. This smartphone seems to be quite popular as early sales show that it made over 5oo million yuan. In addition, the company claims to have sold over one million units within three hours of the pre-sale China. This is only for the 4G version because the 5G version will start sales in November. Here may be why this device is so popular in China. The Mate 30 series is far cheaper in China than it is in Europe. In some cases, it is 40% cheaper.
Gizchina News of the week
The starting price of the Mate 30 in China is 3999 yuan ($561). However, this same device sells for €799 ($884) in Europe. The Mate 30 pro starts at 5799 yuan ($831) in China while in Europe, it costs €1099 ($1216). The Mate 30 Pro 5G 8GB + 256GB and Mate 30 RS Porsche designed 12GB+512GB sells €1199 ($1326) and €2095 ($2316) respectively in Europe. In China, they sell for 6899 yuan ($968) and 12999 yuan ($1823) respectively.
This is probably one of the reasons why Huawei remains top of the Chinese smartphone market. It gives huge preference to its home town in terms of pricing. European customers are not exactly happy, the price difference is huge. Huawei believes that the Mate 30 series will ship over 20 million units before the end of this year.
