Huawei, has been at loggerheads with the US on multiple issues. The US has always told its allies to desist from Huawei’s 5G. It believes that Huawei’s 5G is not safe and has backdoors. However, the German government recently removed the clause that excludes Huawei from the latest security rules. This means that Huawei can enter the German 5G market. Germany is one of Europe’s core powers thus its decision will most-likely influence other nations. This implies that the US’s attempt to contain Huawei’s global strategy is facing a huge setback.
In response to the reports, the US has expressed its “concern” about Germany. Rob Strayer, US Deputy Secretary of State for Network and Communications Policy, said that if Germany allows Huawei to participate in its 5G network construction, the US will reassess its intelligence sharing with Germany.
Gizchina News of the week
Huawei is a partner of several German telecom operators. These operators previously said that if Huawei’s ban is active in Germany, it will delay the deployment of 5G networks for many years. This will not only set its 5G behind, it will also lose billions of dollars.
Huawei is currently the world’s largest supplier of 5G telecommunications equipment with a market share of more than 28 %. It is ahead of European companies such as Ericsson and Nokia. Its 5G network has received more than 50 orders worldwide. In addition, it has shipped over 150,000 units of 5G base stations globally.
Stryer said: “If their network uses untrusted technology, then we must re-evaluate how to share information with countries like Germany.” However, he said that the US has not begun to review the regulations. As of now, there is no response from Germany on the latest development. What do you think about the latest statement from the US on Germany’s decision?
