Twitter has just released a new alpha release for the Android App of the popular social media network. Do you remember the popular “Lights Out” mode that was released in March for iOS devices? That’s exactly that same thing. It introduces a new OLED friend interface with deep black backgrounds that will help smartphones with OLED screens to save energy. After all, in these panels, every “black” color will result in a “turned-off” pixel. Worth noting that at this moment, it is only available in the alpha build of the APK. However, it means that Twitter is making the last adjustments before making it available to the wider public.

Worth noting that this OLED-friendly dark mode is available for users on alpha version 8.19.0-alpha.03 of the Twitter app. Furthermore, it is activated through a server-side switch. For that reason, there’s no way to get it by simply installing the new version of the app. It also needs a server-based approval in order to run on Lights Out mode. Interestingly enough, seems that some users managed to get it active by clearing the app cache. So if you’re an avid Twitter user on your OLED-equipped smartphone, then it worths a try.
Twitter’s new Dark Mode is a great improvement over the usual dark blue-ish dark mode solution. It is not only friendly to the eyes but also saves energy in OLED panels. When it comes to LCD screens, there will be no differences at all.
