Pixel 4 and 4 XL shipments started; First units coming in cereal boxes

The first wave of Pixel 4 and 4 XL smartphones are starting to be delivered to their respective owners. Shipments already started in Australia and Canada yesterday. Today, however, it’s time for the US and Taiwanese customers to start receiving the latest king of vanilla Android.

According to a user from Reddit, who got his unit shared a very curious picture of the retail package. His Pixel 4 smartphone came in a pixelated cereal box with the “Pixel 4” name. What is more shocking is the fact that it truly includes cereal! Thankfully, we got a clear picture of this unusual package thanks to a picture shared by the Twitter user @cwlcymro.

Interestingly enough, we can spot the “FREE INSIDE” words in the box. What Google refers to “Free”, well there are two possibilities – The free cereal, or the free cloud storage for pictures taken with the Pixel smartphones. Jokes aside, the latter is actually the case, however, it’s a bit misleading. All smartphones have free “high-quality” storage from the Google Photos app, however, Pixels have been an exception. While the “High-Quality” compresses all pictures to up to 16MP, Pixel users were able to use an “Original-Quality” mode for free. Sadly, this isn’t available anymore for the Pixel 4 devices.

The Cereal package seems to be a perk for those who pre-ordered the Pixel 4 devices first. Interestingly, some users received a Domino’s Pizza package. All this seems a bit out of place, after all, Google dropped all relations between Android and food with the latest Android 10. Still, it’s an interesting and unusual retail box.
