Recent reports show that Chinese tech conglomerate, Huawei, has shipped over 200 million smartphones in 2019. Subsequently, there were speculations that Huawei will ship about 250 million smartphones before the end of the year. Nevertheless, Huawei’s founder, Ren Zhengfei, said in an interview with European media that Huawei’s smartphone production this year will reach 270 million units. According to him, its production is huge and it requires several chip factories to supply Huawei.
Due to the pressure from the US, Huawei’s smartphone business is facing some difficulties this year. The original goal of hitting the world’s number one is difficult to achieve. However, in recent months, Huawei has been striving to maintain the rapid growth of the smartphone business. Huawei’s smartphone shipment for 2019 is guaranteed to reach 250 million units. If it ships 270 million units, it could surpass Samsung to become the world’s largest smartphone brand. However, after the US ban in May, Huawei’s smartphone shipment outside China has fallen sharply.

However, the performance of Huawei in the past six months shows that the ban has little or no impact. The company has already hit 200 million smartphones with two months left in the year. Usually, Huawei ships 20 million smartphones per month but the last two months of the year are peak trade seasons. Therefore, the goal of 270 million units is still possible.
In 2018, Huawei shipped 206 million smartphones. If it can reach 270 million units this year, it will increase by 31% and still maintain rapid growth. Last year, Samsung’s mobile phone shipments were about 290 million units. Huawei may still surpass Samsung if it can reach its target. In other reports, Ren Zhengfei believes that Huawei do not need to replace Android. According to him, Huawei will continue to work with Android.
