Recently, JOLED, a panel maker co-founded by Sony and Panasonic, held a completion ceremony for the Nomi Plant in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. At this event, the manufacturer announced they will begin trial production of OLED panels. The plant is a 5.5th-generation display panel factory owned by JOLED. Its products will be used to manufacture medium-sized high-resolution OLED displays.
According to official sources, the new JOLED plant can produce 20,000 display panels with a size of 1300x1500mm each month. Moreover, these display panels will be printed by high-speed printing. The entire production is based on batch EL layer formation. Currently, JOLED has delivered samples to customers and plans to start mass production in 2020.

After inheriting Sony and Panasonic’s OLED panel business, JOLED’s current main production line is the 4.5th generation product line located near Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Compared with the new plant, the scale of this plant is smaller. Undoubtedly, this limits the company’s development in related businesses.
Due to the adoption of new factories and new production technologies, JOLED can significantly increase production efficiency. Thus, it can improve the overall cost-effectiveness of the product and further occupy the low-end market.
Tadashi Ishibashi, representative director and president of JOLED, said at the ceremony, ‘We are so delighted to have completed our first mass production line of OLED displays, which is also the world’s first mass-production line of printed OLED. We will produce mid-sized high-resolution OLED displays using the printing method and will provide innovations to the middle-sized category in the world OLED market.’
