Apple Pay Express Transit feature now available in London

Apple Pay

After a long period of collaboration and development, Apple Pay Express Transit Feature now works for all Transport for London services. That includes the Underground, Buses, and Trams – anywhere there is a yellow reader. So, if you live in London and have an iPhone or an Apple Watch, you leave your Oyster card behind.

In order to start using the Apple Pay-integrated Express Transit feature, you’ll need to pick a preferred card to use for payments. Since it has speed as a top priority, the payment process will skip any kind authentication. Interestingly enough, the feature will still work even five hours after your iPhone’s battery dies. Take in mind that this only applies to iPhone XS, XR, and newer models. Moreover, if you power off your handset, the Transit feature will be disabled.

Another interesting feature allows you to remotely disable Express Transit feature if you lose your phone or watch. Apple Pay integration with public transport services is already available in several other regions. London now joins New York (MTA), Portland (TriMet), Japan (Suica cards) as well as Beijing and Shanghai.
