Six months ago, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, sorted out Xiaomi’s product line on Weibo. He said the company is leaving only the original Mi series, the MIX line, and added the new CC series. The latter has been born as a result of cooperation with Meitu. Anyways, the Xiaomi executive also said there will be no Max line device launched this year. But this series has been created to compete with the large-screen handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy Note. And as Xiaomi has always come with a great price-over-performance ratio, the Xiaomi Max line smartphones have collected a large army of fans.
The latest rumor we heard about the Xiaomi Max 4 was in February.
Just last night, some users asked Redmi product line leader Lu Weibing about the new Xiaomi Max product release date. In response, Lu Weibing made it clear that there will be no new launch of the Xiaomi Max. This is a clear hint that the large-screen series of Xiaomi born in 2016 will have no continuation.
Gizchina News of the week
As a reminder, the first Xiaomi Max product was released in 2016. The first-gen handset was equipped with a 6.44-inch 1080P screen. In 2016, there were not many products witch such a screen size. The size of smartphones generally remained around 5.5 inches. So the Xiaomi Max quickly seized the market segment of large screens.
The last model of Xiaomi Max is the Xiaomi Max 3 released last year. Due to the use of a full-screen technology, its screen size reached 6.9 inches, which is close to the size of a tablet.
With the increase in the proportion of smartphone screens, the market for large screens has been squeezed by traditional phones. Today’s flagship smartphone screens have generally reached the size of the original Xiaomi Max. Therefore, it is still very logical to cut off the Xiaomi Mi Max product line at the moment.
This sucks
Think a part of me just died 😔
So many of us wanted a bezel-less 7.2 inch display with a 6000mah battery.
As consumers, we have no choice now but to go for smaller phones with less battery power.
* For the record, whilst my K20 is 6.4 inches, the display is nowhere as near as expansive as the original Mi Max because of the different aspect ratio.
So many wanted a medium size phone with a bigger mAh battery. Such as 6 inch. display and 6000mAh battery. So why can’t be made?
Personally prefer 5.8 – 6.0 inch fones which is more pocket friendly
