At today ’s OPPO Future Technology Conference, Liu Chang, vice president of OPPO and dean of the research institute, said in an interview with the media that OPPO already has chip-level capabilities. The rumored OPPO M1 chip may be used in coming OPPO products.
Earlier, some sources reported that OPPO may have been developing its own chips. OPPO applied for a trademark named “OPPO M1” at the European Union Intellectual Property Office, which includes “chips [integrated circuit]; semiconductor chips; computer chips; multi-processor chips; electronic chips for integrated circuit manufacturing; biochips; smartphones; cell phones; screens.”

We also know OPPO is working with engineers from MediaTek and Qualcomm to help them develop the OPPO M1 chip. At the time, the company said the OPPO M1 was a coprocessor under development. Making products well is the core strategy of OPPO. Any R&D investment and technological innovation is to create a better user experience.
Liu Chang talked about the chip in an interview today. He said that OPPO already has chip-level technical capabilities. For example, OPPO also has the VOOC flash charging chips. The much-rumored M1 chip is indeed planned. And it may be commercially available on OPPO products in the future.
Liu Chang believes that OPPO must extend its capabilities to the chip field. So it will have the ability to talk with partners and make demands. In his view, chip companies are far away from users. But chip definition is inseparable from user needs. So OPPO can connect user needs with the capabilities of chip companies.
