After a disappointing outing with the 2018 iPhones, Apple bounced back with its 2019 iPhones. However, Gene Munster, managing partner of Loup Ventures, believes that due to factors such as 5G network coverage in the US, Apple iPhone 5G sales may be disappointing next year.

When it comes to the new-generation network, Apple did not do a proper follow-up. In the 3G network era, Apple launched an iPhone that supports the network in 2008. The first Apple iPhone to support 4G (iPhone 5) arrived in 2013. At present, T-Mobile has established a 5G network nationwide in the United States, while other operators are gradually expanding their 5G coverage, but no 5G-compatible Apple iPhone has appeared yet.

Gene Munster thinks that this is not Apple’s problem. Apple’s mobile phone will play a huge role in 5G, but the network’s promotion and coverage will take some time. This he believes will be Apple’s setback. Munster said that sales of Apple iPhone 5G phones in 2020 will disappoint investors.

Previously Verizon CEO, Hans Vestberg, said that only about 50% of Americans will have a 5G phone by 2024. Piper Jaffray’s September survey showed that 23% of people would upgrade to a 5G Apple phone. Regarding the promotion of 5G mobile phones, the main task currently lies on the shoulders of operators.
