Xiaomi just launched the Redmi 8 series of phones including the entry-level Redmi 8A. These phones are currently fresh in the market and are selling like hotcakes especially in India. But Xiaomi (or Redmi) already has its succeeding series in works and the first of which, Redmi 9, has already been tipped now to feature the yet to announce MediaTek Helio G70. That’s not all, there are some more juicy details just revealed in this fresh 91mobiles report.
Since the beginning, Xiaomi has always preferred Qualcomm chips in its phones. However, from time to time, the company used chipsets from MediaTek like in the very first Redmi Note, Redmi Note 2, even Redmi Note 3 and 4 in China, and the newest Redmi Note 8 Pro. Even the entry-level Redmi 6 series from 2018 had MediaTek SoCs inside them. If that is not enough, the company is planning to launch the forthcoming Redmi 9 powered by an unannounced MediaTek Helio G70 according to the leak.

Going by the name of the silicon wafer, it will be in the same gaming series SoCs like the G90 and G90T. That means the upcoming Redmi 9 might perform much better than the current generation Redmi 8 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 439. The report also adds the phone will come in a 4GB + 64GB storage configuration and could arrive in other variants as well. Also, it will have a larger footprint than Redmi 8 which already features a 6.22-inches HD+ dot notch display.
The Redmi 9 is expected to debut sometime early in Q1 2020 in China followed by other markets like India, Indonesia, and Europe.
