Also, the report predicts that new models using the periscope telephoto lens will increase in 2020, including the Huawei P40, Huawei Nova’s high-end models, Honor’s high-end phones, and Mate’s high-end devices. Due to the increase in the number of smartphones with periscope telephoto lenses and the average selling price dropped to 2500 yuan to 3500 yuan ($356 – $499), shipments of periscope telephoto lenses will increase significantly to 28 million in 2020.

Guo Minghao believes that optical zoom will become the key to the configuration upgrade of high-end smartphones in 2020. He predicts that more high-end models will use periscope telephoto lenses in the coming months.

As Guo Minghao guesses new periscope telephoto lens for the Huawei P40 Pro supports 10x optical zoom. As a reminder, the previous generation P30 Pro’s periscope telephoto lens supports 5x optical zoom. The internal structure of the P40 Pro’s periscope telephoto lens is more complicated. It includes a newly designed prism and 2 new mirrors. This will help in extending the refraction path of light in the periscope telephoto lens.
