In the year 2019, we have seen smartphone leaders launching numerous 5G capable devices in the market. It seems like the same trend will follow this year but instead of hefty price tags, we might finally see a cheaper 5G smartphone by the end of this year. This smartphone will come from none other than Huawei. Recently, President of Huawei’s 5G product line, Yang Chaobin, revealed a major future plan of the company for this year.
Huawei to Launch 5G Phone with a $150 Price Tag
As per the Chaobin, the Chinese smartphone maker might launch a cheaper 5G smartphone with a price tag of around $150 by the end of this year or by early 2021. This particular step will bring 5G capabilities to cheaper and more budget devices. For those who’re unaware, it is currently limited to mid-range to high-end smartphones. Qualcomm and MediaTek have already launched mid-range chipsets that support 5G connectivity. It seems like both the manufacturer are now working to bring the same to cheaper devices.
Gizchina News of the week
To recall, Huawei and its sub-brand Honor has so far launched a slew of 5G smartphones last year. The list includes Huawei Mate 30 5G, Mate 20X 5G, Nova 6 5G and Honor V30 5G phones. Furthermore, the smartphone maker has shipped more than 6.9 million units globally as of the end of December 2019. With that said, we might see other smartphone manufacturers following the suit and launching their own iteration of cheaper 5G smartphones later this year. This means that 5G devices will now be accessible to more users out there considering the fact that budget devices sell like a piece of hotcake.
In other related news, Huawei is also planning to launch its flagship smartphone dubbed Huawei P40 Pro in the coming months. The device will come with features such as Penta rear camera setup, punch-hole display, flagship processor and massive battery packed inside. With that said, we should also see a 5G variant of the device.
