Repairing a device can be a decidedly inexpensive option when compared to total replacement. But which are the easiest products to repair (and which ones are the worst)? iFixit has decided to publish its personal ranking of 2019 for the best and worst devices to repair, here are the results.
The best are:
- Fairphone 3 (10/10)
- Mac Pro 2019 (9/10)
- Xbox One S All Digital Edition (8/10)
In all cases, the ease of access and the simplicity with which the components can be removed and replaced were praised. In some cases, the presence of specific indications inside the body also made the vote even higher.
On the opposite side we find:
- Samsung Galaxy Fold (2/10)
- MacBook Pro 16″ 2019 (1/10)
- Apple AirPods Pro (0/10)
If in the case of the Galaxy Fold the criticisms may seem obvious (given the presence of the hinge), those addressed to Apple products mainly concern the excessive use of glue and, in the case of AirPods, the practical impossibility of reassembling them (making it impossible to repair).
Gizchina News of the week
We want to make an honorable mention for the Surface Laptop 3. Although its score of 5 out of 10 is not so good, iFixit has decided to praise Microsoft for its commitment to repairability. The first models of the Surface Laptop line had 0 out of 10 on reparability tests.
iFixit’s Best and Worst Devices of 2019!
It is worth to mention that Google Pixel 4 XL and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 have just been voted the most fragile smartphones of the year 2019 by Jerry Rig Everything. As the YouTuber reminds us, they are one of the rare phones on the market not to have survived the traditional bend test. Among the good students in this ranking, the videographer, on the other hand, highlights Google’s Pixel 3a.
During his test, Jerry Rig Everything managed to fold the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 with his bare hands. Same story on the side of the Pixel 4 XL, which takes second place in this sad record.
