Facebook is about to deploy the dark mode on the Android app. Several users were able to try it, as specified by our colleagues from the Android Police site.
The social network is therefore quietly pursuing the standardization of its services, since the “dark mode” has already been tested and gradually integrated into the web version, alongside a brand new interface that should arrive soon. For its part, instant messaging Facebook Messenger has been hosting dark mode since April 2019.
All that was missing is the Android version of the social network app. Facebook developers had said they were working in dark mode for the application in August 2019, and since then nothing has been seen. According to our colleagues from the Android Police site, some users are already enjoying the dark mode on their Facebook app. Testimonials are starting to appear in on Twitter and Reddit, which implies a gradual deployment of the functionality.
Gizchina News of the week
Facebook’s dark mode on Android starts showing up for some users
According to users, the mode does not seem quite ready yet. Some areas of the application suddenly change from white to black, so there are still some misfires. Regarding the captures, Facebook has a dark gray, more than a complete black. The blue icons change to white, just like the font. Facebook is probably doing the last user tests before a general deployment of the dark mode.
This functionality is eagerly awaited, in particular for the significant energy savings it will bring. Indeed, it has been proven that Facebook’s Android application is one of the most energy-consuming. In fact, the integration of the dark mode will finally make it possible to limit the energy consumption of the social network app.
As a reminder, the new Facebook interface of the web version of the social network is currently being tested by a small number of users. It has more ergonomics and visibility, a more flat design and a number of tabs reduced to the strict minimum. Communities, groups and stories will be particularly highlighted on this version. It should be available to everyone in the coming months.
