POCO’s second smartphone coming next month

After announcing it as an independent brand, POCO’s General Manager C. Manmohan has now confirmed the brand’s first smartphone of 2020 will be announced next month, i.e. February itself. However, it will be not the most-awaited successor to the popular POCO F1 but a new product altogether. The new piece of information comes in an interview with Indian YouTuber Ruhez Amrelia on his channel TechnoRuhez.

Gizchina News of the week

POCO changed the landscape of the Indian smartphone market with POCO F1 in 2018. It made a similar impact as the original OnePlus One in 2014. Unfortunately, the brand did not come with a successor in 2019. Instead, we get to see Redmi K20 series in the same price bracket last year. But now things are starting to clear (somewhat) as Xiaomi spun-off POCO into an independent brand earlier this week. But the young independent brand did not drop any ETA for its upcoming smartphones until now.

In the interview with Ruhez, C. Manmohan, the General Manager of POCO revealed to launch their first smartphone as an independent brand next month. Also, he confirmed it to be a different phone and not a successor to POCO F1, which is disappointing to hear as it has been over a year and a half since the F1 was launched. But he did reveal the plans for the successor in addition to a number of other phones such as the phone launching in February. Further, on questioning about software, he replied that POCO-branded smartphones will continue to use MIUI for POCO and will keep on adding on new features based on feedback from users.

That said, the brand is yet to announce the launch date of their second smartphone, which we believe to happen soon as February is only a week away.
