According to reports, Oppo is gearing up to announce its first smartwatch in Q1 this year. The company itself confirmed the launch window for the new wearable. It means that we have between now and the end of March to see the arrival of the new smartwatch.
The company’s new smartwatch will feature a rectangular design aka square dial like the Xiaomi Mi Watch. Back in the last year, Oppo’s Vice President, Brian Shen, made a post of Weibo around the time the Mi Watch was taking flak for its similarity to the Apple Watch Series 5. According to the company’s executive, a rectangular dial is better than a circular dial as it can display more information. However, he also mentioned that a circular dial has a better design since it loos like a traditional watch.
Gizchina News of the week
A new report came directly from the Weibo’s account Digital Cheat Stations. According to it, the Oppo Smartwatch will be able to measure ECG/EKG. With this feature, owners will be able to test and see if their heart has any abnormalities or has an irregular rhythm. This is one of the most advanced features in smartwatches with focus in health tracking.
The market already has some smartwatches with bulti-in ECG. The most popular ones are the Apple Watch Series 5, The Samsung Galaxy Active 2, Withings Move ECG and the Amazfit Verge. For that reason, we believe that while ECG is cool, Oppo will add more features to the package to make it more useful for the competition.
The new Oppo Smartwatch may debut alongside Oppo Find X2
Oppo still needs to disclose its plans for the smartwatch launch. However, we already know that it won’t take more than two months to be launched. We wouldn’t be surprised if the company opts for launching it along with the new Oppo Find X2 which will go official during this quarter.
