BOE flexible AMOLED shipments rank second in the world in 2019

Chinese firm, Qunzhi Consulting, recently released the global AMOLED smartphone panel shipment data for 2019. The report shows that last year, the global flexible AMOLED smartphone panel shipments were approximately 180 million units. This is a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. Samsung Display, BOE, and LGD are the top three smartphone panel makers in the world.

In the AMOLED market in mainland China, BOE ranks first with a 30.2% share. In the flexible screen AMOLED market, BOE has an absolute advantage with a market share of 87.6%. As the demand for flexible AMOLED models from terminal brands increases, there are expectations that the shipment of flexible smartphone panels will exceed 300 million in 2020. This will be an increase of over 50% year-on-year.

In the global AMOLED panel industry, Korean manufacturers have complete control of the market. According to CINNO Research, Korean AMOLED panel makers shipped about 400 million pieces worldwide, accounting for 87% of shipments in 2019. However, China’s AMOLED panel factory shipped about 56 million pieces, an increase of 133.5% year-on-year. Globally, Chinese manufacturers account for only 12% and they are still far behind South Korean manufacturers.

Since the Mate 20 series, Huawei has been a consistent customer of BOE. Chinese smartphones like Huawei Mate X, Motorola Razr foldable phone, Oppo 5G phone, Nubia X dual-screen phone, and others all use BOE’s flexible display.
