Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun recently confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 10 uses LPDDR5 memory across the board. However, this smartphone will not only use Micron’s LPDDR5 memory but also Samsung’s LPDDR5 memory. Samsung recently released the Galaxy S20 series and this series uses 12GB / 16GB LPDDR5 memory. Now, Micron technology believes that there will be more 16GB LPDDR5 memory phones in the second half of this year.
Gizchina News of the week
Recall that Micron Technology was the first to announce a low-power LPDDR5 DRAM chip. This chip is already in mass production and it is for high-end smartphones. In a recent media interview, Micron Technology stated that mobile phones with 16GB memory specifications will appear in the second half of 2020 because Micron Technology has already received a lot of demand for 16GB memory.
Micron believes that mainstream flagships will be equipped with LPDDR5 by the end of 2020. LPDDR5 will cover mid- to high-end 5G smartphones from 2021 to 2022, and LPDDR5 will become the mainstream of the market by 2022 and 2023.
It is not a surprise that Micron already has a lot of orders for the low-power LPDDR5 DRAM chip. It is quite common for OEMs to continue a trend once it starts. If Xiaomi and Samsung are already using this chip, you can be sure that more Android OEMs will follow soon.
