The last year’s Pixel 4 lineup debuted four months ago in October 2019, the devices weren’t really groundbreaking in comparison to its predecessors. However, they implemented new outstanding camera mechanics. We’re yet to see a new iteration for the series in the form of Pixel 4a, a mid-range smartphone. While we thought that it would be too soon to talk about Google Pixel 5 XL, it is already here. We’re solid eight months before the actual launch, however, Google’s skills aren’t the best in keeping Pixel smartphone under wraps before its arrival. Still, this is a new record for Pixel devices.
Thanks to a leaked render from the YouTuber Jon Prosser of FrontPageTech we got a clear picture of the upcoming smartphone. According to him, he got CAD files for the upcoming device a few days back which were used to create these new renders. Jon states that Pixel 5 XL has three prototype models in development. The design you see above is just one of these prototypes. The other two prototypes have a similar square-shaped camera housing as the existing Pixel 4 series. The new design is somewhat unique in comparison to everything we have in the industry. You can think it is ugly, but it feels more original than all square-shaped cameras we have nowadays.
Gizchina News of the week
According to the report, the Pixel 5 XL design will feature the same “soft matte glass back with a glossy camera module”. Moreover, for the first time ever, the Pixel lineup will get a third camera sensor. The Pixel 5 XL boasts three sensors in a module housing that looks like an elongated semi-circle. It’s not the best of designs, but at least the company is trying something different. Meanwhile, most of the companies in the industry are going to bring a square-camera setup in 2020. It can even be the case of the Pixel 5 series if this prototype gets scrapped in the future. Jon states that the design started to grow on him slightly.
Google Pixel 5 XL will ship with three-camera sensors, one of them will be an Ultra-Wide Angle module
Besides the new design, it seems that Google will finally add a wide-angle camera on the new model. It’s one of the big letdowns in the last year’s Pixel 4 devices. We are curious to see the magic Google will do with the use of the new sensors. Especially in combination with the Google Camera app, which can do wonders.
