Google Pixel 5 make appearance in Android Open Source Project

Over the past few weeks, we have been seeing the leaks and rumors surrounding Google’s upcoming Pixel 4a smartphone. And now, details about the Pixel 5 flagship device have also surfaced. Just recently, the alleged design of the Google Pixel 5 XL leaked online.

Now, Google’s next flagship has also leaked in its name. It turns out that Pixel 5 is already in the works within the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code. The leak comes from a new code change for the Linux kernel of Android, where developer Elena Petrova – of AOSP – explains that it has only been tested in Pixel 4 and not in any new device.

According to the report, the commit was uploaded to the Linux kernel version 4.19 policy. The report further mentioned “Bounds sanitizer in arch/arm64/kernel/CPU feature.c makes image unbootable for Pixel 4 at 4.14 kernel. I didn’t have a chance to test it on Pixel 5 with 4.19, and preemptively disabling UBSan there now to ensure bootability” description.

UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer (UBSan) is a fast and undefined behavior detector. UBSan modifies the program at compile time to detect various types of undefined behavior during program execution. The commit also notes that “Pixel 5” is currently running Linux kernel 4.19, while Pixel 4 is in version 4.14. Therefore, we would see an update of the Android kernel for the next version of the Google Android 11 OS.

Google Pixel 5 Expected features

While there isn’t any information on the specifications of the Pixel 5 series. There have been rumors revolving around developments of the Pixel 5 smartphones. Google is likely to improve the camera hardware for Pixel 5, and its main focus would be on low-light photography.

For now, that is all the information that can be deduced from these rumors. However, as we get closer to the launch of the smartphone and Google’s upcoming I/O 2020 event in Mountain View, we could get to see more leaks and rumors of the devices’ surface online.
