It is going to take some time for 5G to spread through many parts of the world. Although this new network was commercialized last year, it requires a lot of investment to set up. According to media reports, American manufacturer, Intel, predicts that it will occupy about 40% of the market share of 5G base stations. It also predicts that by 2024, it will have 6 million 5G base stations worldwide.
Recently, Intel released a series of new products, including the new Atom P5900 processor, Ethernet 700 series network adapters, and Diamond Mesa ASIC for 5G network acceleration. The Atom P5900 SoC is based on Intel's 10nm SoC architecture and is designed to meet key 5G requirements, such as high bandwidth and low latency processing in 5G wireless base stations.
The Atom P5900 is designed for 5G base stations. Intel already has customers for the chip, including Ericsson, Nokia, and ZTE. With this P5900 platform, Intel hopes to meet the high bandwidth and low latency requirements of all 5G networks. The second product in the 5G portfolio announced by Intel is the Ethernet 700 series network adapter, which will be put into production in the second quarter of 2020 and is currently in the sampling process.
