In the face of the coronavirus epidemic ravaging different part of the world, international public event is not advisable. Major international events like MWC2020 has been canceled for fear of further spreading of the virus. Now, the Game Developers Conference (GDC 2020) will not hold according to its initial schedule.
The conference was originally scheduled to hold in San Francisco from March 16th to 20th. However, the organizer announced on Friday that after making close consultations with partners, it had to take a “difficult decision”. Its words
“After close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community around the world, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developers Conference this March”
However, the organizers did not provide a new or tentative date for the event. It further stated, “In the past year, we have done a lot of preparations for the show together with our advisory board, speakers, exhibitors and event partners, but now we have to postpone the meeting, we are very sad and disappointed”.

Earlier this month, several major participants including Amazon, Facebook, Sony, and Microsoft pulled out of the event. Instead, some of these manufacturers now favour an online live streaming event for their launch.
Game Developers Conference (GDC 2020) may hold an online event
According to reports, visitors who had previously planned to participate in March GDC 2020 will receive a refund email. In addition, tourists who made reservations for hotels can cancel for free. At present, there are reports that GDC officials also plan to hold an online event this March.
Recall that the MWC2020 which did not hold according to schedule did not offer any refund to participants. Instead, the body asked participants to be patient and it will offer a viable solution for their funds.
No doubt, GDC did the right thing by playing safe. It’s also interesting to note that it is offering refund of participation fees.
