Xiaomi has patented a design for an accessory to wirelessly charge wireless earphones, as per a new listing found by 91Mobiles on the official website of CNIPA (Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration). This suggests the company might be working on a smartphone with reverse wireless charging as none of their devices still support it.
Although reverse wireless charging has been around for a while (first debuted on Huawei Mate 20 Pro) to charge accessories (mostly TWS), this feature is yet to go mainstream. Going by the new patent filed by Xiaomi, the company may soon join this bandwagon but we cannot say it for sure as the patented product seems to be a universal accessory for the two common types of TWS available in the market.
Gizchina News of the week
The patent description says, “This appearance design product is a mobile phone accessory, which can be installed on the mobile phone, used to store the earphone, and charge the headset”. In other words, the product is a case with holders for two different types of TWS, i.e. Apple AirPods (with stem) and Samsung Galaxy Buds (without stem) like designs. By using this case on devices with reverse wireless charging, users will be able to charge their TWS easily without looking for a sweet spot on their phones’ surface.
We are not sure if this patent will ever come into fruition but looking at Xiaomi’s recent 40W wireless charging breakthrough, we might soon get to see a Xiaomi phone with reverse wireless charging support and maybe this case will be announced alongside it.
