As was rumoured quite often, Xiaomi India officially announced the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max at an online-only event today. This device brings a revamped design to the Redmi Note lineup which the company calls ‘Aura Balance Design’, an improved version of ‘Aura Design’ introduced last year.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is one of the best-looking budget smartphones in recent years with a unique design featuring a symmetrical square camera bump, centre-aligned punch hole camera, and 20:9 aspect ratio display. The IPS LCD panel of the phone measures 6.67-inches with Gorilla Glass 5 Protection that also happens to be present on the back as well as on the camera array. Further, this phone is the first Redmi Note to come equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Talking about performance, the device comes with an all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, which debuted on Realme 6 Pro last week. As for memory, the phone will be available in up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. If that is not enough, the storage can be further expanded up to 512GB via a dedicated microSD card slot. Coming to the cameras, the device features a 64MP (primary) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 5MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) quad-camera setup on the back and a 32MP selfie camera on the front.

Other notable features of the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max include a new z-axis vibration motor to offer better haptic feedback, NAVIC support, 3.5mm headphone jack, IR blaster, MIUI 11 based on Android 10, and a large 5,020mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging over USB Type-C. The handset will be available in Aurora Blue, Glacier White, and Interstellar Black.

The price of the base variant which has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage is Rs 14,999 ($202), the 6GB + 128GB will cost INR16,999 ($230) and reaches INR18,999 ($255) for the 8GB + 128GB model. Sales of the handset will kick off on 25th March.
