This year’s cancellation of MWC 2020 due to Coronavirus pandemic many companies had to adopt other strategies to announce new smartphones. HMD Global was one of the companies that were planning new smartphone launches for the February event. Today, the Finnish company finally took the wraps off multiple smartphones that were originally planned for the last month. Along with a feature phone, a low-end and mid-range device, the company unveiled the Nokia 8.3 5G. It’s the most ambitious device released today.
Nokia 8.3 5G is a “flagship killer”
We can state that its a premium mid-range smartphone with solid specifications. The new smartphone can be positioned as a “flagship killer” with its big display, quad-camera with ZEISS certification and unrivaled 5G connectivity.
According to HMD, the Nokia 8 5G connectivity is all about futureproofing. The device supports more 5G bands than even the priciest flagships out there. This way, the handset is compatible with all of the existing and upcoming 5G networks around the globe. The handset is built around a 6.81-inch PureDisplay screen with FullHD+ resolution. It’s an HDR panel with Adaptive display support that adjusts contrast depending on how much light is around you. The device comes with a punch-hole which serves as a house for the 24MP front-facing camera that also carries ZEISS optics.

Moving around to the back, there’s a ZEISS Quad-Camera with a 64MP main sensor and a 12MP ultrawide module. The focus here is on video recording and low-light performance. In binned mode, its pixels reach 2.8 µm in size. The device also gets a ZEISS cinematic effect that gives you more control over the video capture. OZO audio and action cam mode complete the camcorder arsenal.
Under the hood, we understand why this is a upper-mid-range phone. The device carries the Snapdragon 765G with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and an integrated 5G modem. Moreover, it runs Android 10 straight out of the box. It’s clean Android since all Nokia devices are part of the Android One program. This also ensures 2 years of Android updates and 3 years of monthly security updates. Storage is either 64GB or 128GB and either way you get a MicroSD slot for further expansion.
The handset draws power from a 4,500mAh battery that charges via 18W fast-charging. The Nokia 8.3 5G is available in a single Polar night color option with inspiration in the northern lights. The handset will be available in summer starting at €599.
