In an expected move, one popular Chinese manufacturer has overtaken the other. Before the trade ban by the US government, Huawei clearly attacked the top of the market, wanted to permanently overtake Apple and attack Samsung in the long term. Now the market is collapsing for Huawei, at least for international smartphone sales. As Strategy Analytics reveals, Xiaomi narrowly passed Huawei in February 2020.
Xiaomi just leaves Huawei behind
- Samsung – 18.2 million sales
- Apple – 10.2 million sales
- Xiaomi – 6.0 million sales
- Huawei – 5.5 million sales
Huawei still had 2 million sales ahead of Xiaomi in January, But, it has surrendered in February. In international markets in particular, it hurts Huawei that it is no longer allowed to preinstall Google apps on many new Android smartphones. The Play Store, YouTube, Chrome, Google Search and other popular Google apps are missing. Xiaomi, on the other hand, has plenty to draw on, and is showing more and more presence in several markets. The chance is slowly increasing that Xiaomi will leave Huawei behind and get closer to Samsung worldwide.
