New 56 malicious Android applications were found on Google Play

Google Play is currently the largest and most popular store of mobile applications in the world, which is installed by default on almost all Android smartphones. As you can hardly guess, the number of its users is counted in billions, which makes it a target for cybercriminals. Unfortunately, Google is not known for the best security, because we even regularly inform you about new malicious applications that have been found in its store. Unfortunately, today we had to write about further pests discovered on Google Play. Even worse, their number exceeds fifty, and in total, they were downloaded more than a million times.

New malicious apps discovered on Google Play

Despite many efforts, Google just can’t keep malware developers away from its store. The company is implementing newer and newer safeguards, but the developers always seem to be one step ahead of it.

This is confirmed by the latest report from Check Point Research, which has been dealing with cybersecurity for years. We can read in it that recently they managed to discover 56 malicious adware applications (referred to as “Tekya”) on Google Play, which bypassed the Google Play Protect system security without much problem. Their action boiled down to imitating clicks on ads, which generated considerable revenues. The described applications impersonated various tools, starting with calculators and ending with translators. It cannot be hidden that the list is really huge. The good news, however, is that all of the above applications have already been removed from Google Play. Of course, this does not mean that the malware apps have also disappeared from your smartphones, so if you installed any app from the list, get rid of it as soon as possible.
