Apple’s iPhone 12 series was expected to launch this September, following the company’s regular strategy. This year will be pretty important for Apple’s mobile devices, after all, they will employ 5G connectivity. However, with the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, companies can’t keep their plans anymore. While reports have said that the company wanted to keep its usual schedule, it seems that it won’t happen at all.
A new report from Asia reveals that Apple is currently prepping for a delay on its iPhone 12 lineup. The reason is pretty obvious, the new coronavirus pandemic is threatening global demand and disrupting the product development schedule. The Cupertino firm allegedly held internal discussions on the possibility of delaying the new handsets by months. The supply chain sources are suffering, and that could force the company to adopt such measures.
Gizchina News of the week
The company keeps monitoring the coronavirus outbreaks in the US and Europe, its two largest markets. Moreover, the company is concerned that the current situation may lower consumer’s interest to upgrade smartphones. That makes sense, after all, we’re on the verge of a global economic recession. That can result in disappointing sales for the company’s first 5G smartphone. An exact timeline for the launch will not appear until the Californian government’s lifts quarantine orders. Currently, most of Apple’s employees are working from home.
According to another source, Apple will make the final decision around May at the latest. In the worst-case scenario, the iPhone 12 models will only come in 2021.
