Rumors have been circulating with the possibility of Apple’s upcoming WatchOS 7 featuring a sleep tracking and support for a blood oxygen sensor. Now new sources are reaffirming this possibility. This is a shred of nice evidence that Apple’s upcoming Apple Watch 6 will include these two features. It will one additional step forward for Apple, who definitively made its wearable stand against the competition by introducing features such as the ECG reader.
According to the report, only the Watch Series 3 and newer will get the new software update. That means that the first Apple Watch and the second generation are reaching the end of the line. The duo of wearables got WatchOS 6.1 update but was skipped over the 6.0 update. Apparently, users who have these two will have to upgrade to newer models if they want to keep getting software support and new features from Apple.

Interestingly enough, iFixit reports that the old Apple Watch also has the hardware necessary for a blood oxygen monitor. However, the hardware wasn’t enabled. With the new update, the feature probably won’t be exclusive to the new Apple Watch 6. Unless Apple has a good excuse to not enable it in old models. Sleep Tracking, in counterpart, is available through third-party apps, but it’s hard to use it with the current battery life. The new series 6 probably will introduce a better battery to allow seamless use of this feature.
