Apparently, Oppo is interested in delivering some refreshment to its former low-end lineup of smartphones. Just after reports about a new Oppo A12 emerged, a new device dubbed Oppo A12e surfaced on the company’s Vietnamese website. Apparently, it was a mistake since the phone was removed shortly after being spotted. Unfortunately, for Oppo, there’s no secret anymore.
If you’ve been into Oppo smartphones since 2018, you probably notice semblances between this Oppo A12e and a smartphone from two years ago dubbed Oppo A3s. Apparently, we’re not seeing a new smartphone but a new 2020 rebranding of the A3s.
Oppo A12e specs
The Oppo A12e is powered by the Snapdragon 450 chipset. It’s a Cortex-A53 Octa-Core made on 14nm process that was used by just a few companies back in its days. Do you remember the Snapdragon 625? We can say that the Cortex-A53 is a similar chipset. It targets the low-end segment but still is more powerful than other offerings like the Snapdragon 429. The processing power is aided by 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s also microSD card support.
Gizchina News of the week
These specs are built around a 6.2-inch display with HD+ resolution. This display has a wide-notch solution, it’s something that isn’t being used by companies except Apple. The device weighs in at 168g and has overall dimensions of 156.2 x 75.6 x 8.2 mm. It draws power from a 4,230mAh battery that we believe still charges with the aged MicroUSB 2.0 standard. Now, on the software front, we have the old ColorOS 5.1 skin which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. Well, we don’t think that Oppo will really come with a low-end smartphone running such aged software when even low-end devices are shipping with Android 10 OS.
Moving on to the camera department, we have a dual-camera setup on the rear comprising a 13MP camera accompanied by a second 2MP shooter. On the front, there’s a single 8 snapper living inside of the wide notch solution. The phone retains the 3.5mm headphone jack and has some interesting music-centric features within the software.
Now, it remains to be seen when Oppo will unveil both A12 and A12e smartphones. We don’t know how a phone that is truly just a rebranded 2018 phone will stand against modern smartphones. After all, even the low-ends of today are more appealing than what we’re seeing here.
