Update: We’ve been notified (by @MEIZUFansGlobal) that the launch date will, in fact, be announced on April 22.

A few days back, Chinese smartphone maker Meizu had announced on Weibo that it will be revealing something about Meizu 17 “mSmart 5G” on April 17th. Today it has revealed a poster of the phone and confirmed the phone’s official launch date will finally arrive on April 22nd.

The poster showcases the front side of the phone in all its glory. It is concurrent with earlier leaks that said the phone may have a single punch-hole display which seems to be on the top right with minimum bezels on all sides. This design is a slight departure from the mini-bezel design Meizu employed for the previous two years. There is also an animation showing an in-display fingerprint sensor which makes us believe that the phone will likely have an AMOLED display.

Gizchina News of the week

Since the last Meizu 16 series boasted flagship SoCs we can be sure that the Meizu 17 series will also come with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. It is also expected to come with the latest LPDDR5 RAM and the latest UFS 3.0/3.1 flash storage. There was a hint for 5G capabilities in the earlier poster but the bandwidths of NSA(Non-Standalone) or SA(StandAlone) are yet to be known.

Apart from this, rumours suggest that Meizu may also launch a ‘Pro’ version of Meizu 17 on Wednesday. However, nothing is certain yet. Reports surfaced earlier had revealed the model numbers of Meizu smartphones namely the M081Q and M091Q out of which one is likely to be the Meizu 17 and the other Meizu 17 Pro. Additionally, it must be noted that both these devices had already been certified by the Chinese 3C authority with details of fast charging support. Apparently, one of the devices, Meizu 17 is likely to sport a 30W fast charging and an upgraded 40W charging technology could be on the Pro model. We will share more details of the phone once it’s officially launched.
