Xiaomi unveiled an official list with eligible devices for MIUI 12 update. Unfortunately, the Mi 6 flagship was absent in this list while the Mi 6X variant was present. This statement was received with a big backlash from users that are still rocking th e2017 smartphone. After all, it still powerful enough to hold more than two years of update. Seeing the massive criticism, MIUI product manager, Liu Ming has now confirmed the handset will receive the highly-anticipated update.
The Xiaomi Mi6 was revealed in April 2017 with MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. The device received an update to MIUI 9, MIUI 10, and MIUI 11. While Xiaomi uses a different approach to keep devices updated, the company has rolled out Android Oreo and Android Pie for this old handset. There is just a remote chance that Xiaomi will roll out a major Android update to Android 10, however, it can bring an Android Pie-based MIUI 12.
Gizchina News of the week
Xiaomi has been updating its device in the past for a long time. However, the company is showing a change in its strategy recently. Hopefully, it won’t affect that the Mi 6. Worth noting that while the beta-test build of MIUI 12 will reach this smartphone, there’s no word about the stable firmware. But it would be pointless to launch a beta-test ROM without any intention of providing a stable firmware in the future.
