Yesterday, Xiaomi held an event in China where it revealed the Mi 10 Youth. However, we can pretty much say that the announcement of MIUI 12 in all its glory stole the heart of Mi fans. The new interface promises a ton of new features, more consistency, fluid animations, Dark Mode 2.0, extra security, and more. It’s an early release if we consider that MIUI 11 was revealed six months ago. However, with this release, Xiaomi can keep working during the rest of the year in making the software stable for every supported device.
Since we’re talking about support, the list of devices supporting MIUI 12 is long. That’s how Xiaomi operates, after all, the company is capable of introducing newer versions to older devices despite their Android versions. Soon after the announcement, the company published the closed beta builds for several devices. This way, early adopters of MIUI 12 can test and reports possible bugs.
Today, we’re providing the download links for every supported device. The download process is pretty simple, so as long your device is on the list you’ll just need to download and flash the update. The files are another courtesy from the folks at XDA-Developers.
How to install MIUI 12 Closed Beta
Take in mind that those are closed beta builds and are meant for the Chinese variants, as Xiaomi suspended the rollout of MIUI Global beta since last year. As a direct consequence, you’ll need to flash these recovery ROMs using TWRP to bypass the MIUI beta account whitelisting. That means that you’ll need to unlock your bootloader and flash a supported TWRP recovery image in your device. The bootloader unlocking process does not void your warranty as Xiaomi has clarified recently. However, it’s not an immediate process and a request can take up to 15 days.
Another fact to take in consideration is that Google Play Services isn’t present in this build and the language options are limited to English and Chinese. If those circumstances are not enough to stop you, you can find the download link for your preferred device below. They’re based on either Android Pie or Android 10, depending on the device.
Download MIUI 12 Closed Beta
The builds below are initial betas made on 27 April of 2020. You can head to the source link if you need more instructions on how to unlock your bootloader and flashing TWRP. However, the download links are directly from Xiaomi. Therefore, users are advised to proceed at their own risk. While the process is simple, it may not be recommended for average users that are not comfortable with flashing ROMs. Click in the name of your device and the download will start.
