MediaTek is pretty aware of the crescent demand for high-quality video streaming from smartphones. For that reason, the company announced that its high-end 5G SoC the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G will be the world’s first SoC with support for AV1 codec. With this new codec, users can stream videos with 4K resolution at 60fps. Furthermore, AV1 can offer improved image quality with a smooth experience without using many resources.
Video-streaming is among the main features in smartphones. With the new codec users can enjoy improved battery life while they’re using the best possible options of video recording.
“MediaTek will consistently update its offerings to improve the user’s experience. AV1 technology is an excellent example. Video is now the most used form of communication. According to research, 70% of generation Y and generation Z are using streaming services” says Yenchi Lee, manager of the Wireless business at MediaTek. “Market studies indicate that the streaming industry may expand at a compound annual growth rate of 19.6% and will reach $124.57 billion by 20205. One of the main drivers of this sudden increase will be 5G services. MediaTek leads the way to enable more effective video transmission with the AV1 codec”.
Gizchina News of the week
The arrival of AV1 marks a new era in the video streaming segment. It was presented for the first time in 2018 by AOMedia. The new codec is free from royalties and has been made to replace VP9. Moreover, it offers 30% more than its predecessor. In other words, the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 will not only come with support for the fastest wireless network standard, but also the best possible video codec.
Not a single device with this chipset! Mediatek is bragging about nothing.
Video and camera aspect wise the Dimensity 1000 does show huge potential but I wish they would release a device sooner.
