The coronavirus pandemic is slowing down economic activities in different parts of the world. Poland has commenced its 5G spectrum auction before the pandemic disrupted proceedings. Now, there are reports that the Central European nation is planning to cancel the auction. However, it will commence a fresh auction after the coronavirus pandemic subsides.
The Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs said that the auction was suspended with the intent that it will re-commence after the pandemic subsides. However, this practice does not comply with the auction rules and may face legal challenges.

Recall that Polish regulators suspended the 5G auction in mid-April. However, the government pointed out that because the operators had already taken action, postponing the auction undermines the legal status of the process.
“The government’s goal is to launch a commercial fifth-generation network in Poland as soon as possible. We plan to complete it by the deadline set by the European Digital Agenda. Therefore, considering the possible consequences and safety issues, we will repeat the entire process.” The regulators said
The Ministry of Digital Affairs also detailed the amendments to the Polish Telecommunications Law, aimed at improving the rights and interests of customers. The country is working to align its market with European electronic communications regulations.
The new regulations require operators to improve the contract cancellation process and be more transparent about contract termination dates. To support the new regulations, regulators will provide operators and Internet service providers with a central platform to communicate with consumers. This will make the process of switching services smoother.
