The CPU of the upcoming OnePlus Z has been the subject of intense speculation. Previous leaks have suggested the Dimensity 1000 SoC. However, in a new tip from a credible source, it seems like OnePlus has not switched over to MediaTek after all.
Going into the details, famous tipster Max J. has tweeted that the Oneplus Z will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G SoC. In the image he revealed, we can see the earlier leaked design with a Single punch-hole screen and a Qualcomm logo on it.
Earlier, the phone was rumoured to be sporting a Mediatek Dimensity 1000L SoC. The news about the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L surfaced quite some time ago, by Ishan Agarwal, yet another tipster. Although, he did say that he wasn’t entirely sure about it.
This could be due to the Qualcomm chipset being the best mid-range SoC in the segment. If we recall, Qualcomm spoke a lot about the chipset having the latest X52 Modem with 5G and its 4K HDR streaming capabilities.
Gizchina News of the week
Although this SoC is slightly underpowered in comparison with MediaTek counterpart Dimensity 1000L, Qualcomm has been known to the company for long since it uses their flagship SoC in all of its current models. Obviously, there could be many possible reasons that made Oneplus switch strategies but it could also be a case where Mediatek was never in the equation. That being said, all the speculations will be put to rest once the device hits stage with official press renders.
The OnePlus Z was initially rumoured to debut as the OnePlus 8 Lite, but OnePlus probably had to go with another name to differentiate their phone with others present in the market. Additionally, Max J. had earlier revealed that the device will likely launch in July 2020.
