Petition asks Xiaomi to update Mi Mix 3 5G to Android 10, it still runs Pie-based MIUI 10

Xiaomi

Back in the last year, Xiaomi took to the stage of MWC 2019 to announce a new Mi Mix 3 5G variant. The handset was globally released and figured as the first 5G handset to land in Spain and Italy for a price tag of €599. The handset carried a lot of characteristics from its non-5G sibling including the Android 9.0 Pie-based MIUI 10. One year has passed, and the device still runs Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 11.

That is really shocking, considering that Xiaomi didn’t even update it to MIUI 11. After all, the company usually updates the MIUI version of its handsets without upgrading the Android version underneath. Customers are really angry with this, especially now that MIUI 12 was announced. Now, some of these owners lifted a petition on Change.org in a bid to get the Chinese giant to update the software in this forgotten flagship.

The Mi Mix 3 5G didn’t sell well, hence Xiaomi dropped software support

Apparently, Xiaomi considers this device as a commercial “failure”. After all, just a few units were sold and that may explain why Xiaomi isn’t supporting it with updates. The handset was launched in a time that 5G connectivity was giving its first steps across Europe. So, customers weren’t really moved into buying 5G smartphones at that time. However, while the number of handset sales may not be satisfying for Xiaomi, the customers who opted still deserve proper software support. For instance, the Mi Mix 3 4G already gotten updated to Android 10-based MIUI 11.

The 5G handset surely can run MIUI 11 and even MIUI 12 without any problem. There’s absolutely no limitation for this premium package of specifications. In the past, a petition from fans asked the company to provide Android 10 for the Mi A3. Xiaomi replied in a short time, but the Mi A3 history with Android 10 is terrible. Let’s see how the company will act with the Mi Mix 3 5G.
