Back in January this year, Motorola started to roll out the Android 10 firmware update for the Moto G7 Plus. A few weeks later, the company followed by providing the full kernel source code for this update. Since January, owners of the vanilla Moto G7 have been waiting for this update and now, after many months, it is finally rolling out. Unfortunately, this is available only in Brazil right now, but the company will push it to other regions after this initial rollout.
Gizchina News of the week
Motorola states that the Android 10 rollout started in May 7. The company wants to make this process as smooth as possible. For that reason, will keep rolling out it in batches until the end of this month. The current Android 10 build carries QPU30.52-16-2 serial number. Unfortunately there still no confirmation regarding the Android security patch level within the firmware. As you may expect, the update introduces all the goodies brought by Android 10. That includes system-wide dark mode, gesture navigation, smart replies, and improved permissions controls.
While Motorola is one of the worst companies when it comes to fast Android updates, the Moto G7 has received plenty of love from the Android community. The handset already has several custom ROM versions based on Android 10 like LineageOS 17.1. Once the Android 10 update reaches more countries, we expect to see the company publishing the Android 10 kernel source code. As a result, the custom development scene will keep growing for this mid-range phone.
