China Information and Communications Technology Institute today released the domestic smartphone market operation analysis report for April 2020. The report shows that in April 2020, the overall domestic smartphone market shipments were 41.728 million units, an increase of 14.2% year-on-year. From January to April, the total domestic smartphone market shipments totaled 90.681 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 20.1%. 5G smartphones account for almost half.

The report shows that in April 2020, there were 48 new models of Chinese smartphones on the market, a year-on-year increase of 14.3%. From January to April, a total of 137 new models were launched, down 18.0% year-on-year.
In terms of 5G smartphones, the domestic market shipments of 5G smartphones in April 2020 were 16.38 million, accounting for 39.3% of the smartphone shipments in the same period; 22 new models were out, accounting 45.8% of new smartphones in the same period.

In April 2020, the shipments of domestic branded smartphones were 37.982 million, an increase of 11.9% year-on-year, accounting for 91.0%. 44 new models came, an increase of 25.7% year-on-year, accounting 91.7% of the new smartphone models listed. From January to April, domestic branded smartphone shipments totaled 81.03 million units. It’s a year-on-year decrease of 22.7%, accounting for 89.4% of the same period last year. A total of 123 new models were out. It’s a decrease of 16.3% year-on-year, accounting 89.8% of the same period last year.
