Google Can’t Provide Sufficient Notebooks For Remote Work

Google remote work

Google lets employees work from home. But the supply of hardware equipment (such as notebooks, computers, or smartphones) is limited. All notebook requests for remote work are temporarily canceled. And new employees are also affected because of insufficient equipment.

A Google News spokesperson said that the work of providing equipment for new employees is returning to the right track. But since March, Google requires employees to work from home, the time for new employees to enter the office is extended.

Alphabet has about 300,000 employees. Due to the epidemic, employees were forced to work remotely from home and the office was closed. Currently, Alphabet is still hiring employees. Last month, Alphabet CEO claimed that ‘Google has recruited 4,000 new workers this year,’ but the rate of recruitment has slowed since the beginning of the year.

Employees said that from the beginning of May, internal forums reported that there was a shortage of equipment. One of the documents stated that the number of basic equipment is insufficient in many places. At present, the company is doing its best to ensure that there are enough notebooks. But it is still an impossible task to equip each employee with a notebook.

New employees are hired remotely, which is slower than face-to-face on-site employment. A Google spokesman said: ‘We’re slowing our pace of hiring and investment, and are not bringing on as many new starters as we’d planned at the beginning of the year. We’re continuing to invest in a number of strategic areas.’
