Epic Games has surprised the video game world by unveiling yesterday a technical demo of its Unreal Engine 5 presented as running in real-time on a PlayStation 5. As always with situations like this, some spectators immediately doubted the conditions under which this demo has been performed.
PlayStation 5 first demo demonstrates stunning graphics!
Following the broadcast of the technical demo of Unreal Engine 5, Geoff Keighley streamed an interview with several personalities from Epic Games. This includes Kim Libreri, the technical director of the American studio. And when Geoff Keighley asked to confirm that it was possible to play this demo with a controller, Kim replied:
Gizchina News of the week
It’s a fully playable demo. We plugged a recorder into the back of a PS5 development kit and recorded the signal that came out of it via HDMI. It’s a totally live demo, it is replayable and it is a little bit different every time you play it.
Epic Games, therefore, insists that it is indeed a demo running in real-time on a PS5. But as always, this will not prevent some players from doubting. It will, therefore, be interesting to see if Tim Sweeney’s studio decides to put an alternative version of this technical demo online.
As a reminder, the Unreal Engine 5 will be available to developers from next year. And it will be compatible with PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, PS4, Xbox One and also iOS and Android devices.
PS5 release date?
Although the launch is scheduled for the last quarter of 2020, the exact date of availability is not yet known. Recently, a job offer published on the NEXT Jobs site and relayed on Twitter hinted that the launch would arrive in October 2020. But faced with the excitement, Sony decided to react by publishing a disclaimer on the Japanese site Famitsu. Ultimately, this was an error in the date of the job offer.
