Back in the last month, Xiaomi announced its new proprietary software skin – MIUI 12 – and promised to update several of its smartphones with the new software flavor. A few days ago, it was time for the Global branch to get a proper announcement. Interestingly enough, just a few days after the announcement, a new build called “Global Stable” is reaching the Redmi K20. That’s a big surprise, after all, MIUI 12 still is in beta status. The newest version of the firmware is reaching some Redmi K20 units in India.
The update is based on Android 10, obviously, and brings a set of new features and improvements over MIUI 11. The interface gets new refreshments and there’s a new Dynamic Clock on the lock screen available. Moreover, the Quick Settings have received a major treatment after the introduction of a new design language in MIUI 10. We can say that the new interface is pretty similar to iOS 14. Some known features are present like the always-on display mode.
Gizchina News of the week
Among the new goodies, we have earth live wallpapers as well as a set of bug fixes and performance enhancements. Apparently the update is seeding for both the Redmi K20 units and Mi 9T (The global counterpart of K20). Since the update carries the “stable” label on its name we can say that it’s safe for most users.
The update is rolling out over-the-air and may take a few days to reach all units of the K20. We’ll probably hear more about this update in the coming days after users’ feedback.
