Vlogging and platforms like TikTok are quite popular nowadays. But there is a real reason for their development. It’s not only related to the faster connectivity, many amazing third-party apps, and higher-res cameras but to the smartphones that offer many demanded features. We mean for an average user, to record a good short video via the smartphone, it’s required to own a handset supporting image stabilization. We guess you will agree that in daily life, the vast majority of video shooting scenes are handheld, without the support of the gimbal. So if your smartphone doesn’t come with a corresponding feature, you can lay a cross on your dreams of becoming a great vlogger.
Prior to this, there were two main ways of stabilizing smartphones, namely EIS (electronic image stabilization) and OIS (optical image stabilization). However, after the smartphones entered the AI era, Huawei has exclusively developed AIS (Artificial Image Stabilization), which has been widely used in Huawei and Honor smartphones.
Note: There is also HIS (Hybrid Image Stabilization). Hybrid image stabilization means that the camera combines optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS) simultaneously.
EIS – OIS – AIS
In principle, the EIS is the simplest. The software algorithm calculates the change of the camera lens’ posture and dynamically crops the video picture. So the video picture looks more stable. The advantage is that the cost is low and no additional hardware is required. But the effect is incomparable with that of the OIS.
In this sense, OIS specifically adds a gyroscope to sense the change of the lens posture and compensates the displacement caused by handshake by physically controlling the slightness of the lens together. OIS does not crop the picture. So the overall effect is better than that of the EIS. But the amplitude of stabilization is limited, generally, 1-2°, and OIS cannot suppress the picture shake well under large shaking.
AIS is an image stabilization technology that has emerged in the last two or three years, led by Huawei. AIS is the integration of AI algorithm in the traditional image stabilization algorithm, integrating the advantages of EIS and OIS (low cost, good stabilization effect). Through the AI algorithm, it estimates the movement of the lens. So has a smoother and more accurate posture, achieving a better video stabilization effect.

Honor X10 Video Recording Capabilities
The recently released Honor X10 not only integrates the 40 million RYYB super-sensitivity camera system, but also uses AIS smart image stabilization technology. The latter not only effectively solves the dark light shooting problem but also brings an excellent video stabilization effect.
In order to verify the effect of the AIS smart image stabilization effect of the Honor X10, when testing, the author specifically ‘scrambled’ and deliberately shaken it in hand. By this, he was simulating the shooting scenes if walking or running.
It is not difficult to see from the real shooting effect, even in the case of a large ‘handshake’, the AIS smart image stabilization of the Honor X10 still accurately captures the position of the lens through the AI algorithm. Also, it adjusts the video screen in real-time, easily obtaining a very stable video recording.
In addition to AIS smart image stabilization, the Honor X10 also supports 4K time-lapse photography, 960 frames of slow motion, and smart video editing functions. They further enrich the video shooting gameplay. Just look at other smartphones priced at 2000 yuan ($280). There is no one that can compete with the Honor X10 in this sense.
The Honor X10 40MP high-sensitivity lens supports the exclusive Owl 2.0 algorithm. In addition to the dark light, the night scene mode works like a professional. AIS handheld Super Night Scene 2.0 records the night city exquisitely. There is also a 30-second professional mode long exposure shooting to capture the beauty of the vast galaxy.
The Honor X10 adds fast snapping capability and AI tracking technology. It can automatically identify the shooting scene and follow the focus according to the movement status. For the first time, it supports a 4K ultra-high-definition video recording.
Other Features of Honor X10
On May 26, the Honor X10 went on sale for the first time. And it took from this handset only 8 minutes to sell over 100,000 units. But this is not surprising because, besides the aforementioned amazing video recording capabilities, the Honor X10 also sports a number of other outstanding features. Among them, we can mention the industry’s most 5G frequency band support, and 90Hz / 180Hz full-speed screen, Kirin 820, 4300mAh large battery and other leapfrog configurations.
