Google Camera 7.4 gets new 8x zoom and recording modes

Google camera

After the pixel smartphones had just received some new features via Feature Drops, there is now a new version of the Google Camera app for all Pixel users. Google Camera 7.4 brings minor innovations on the surface and makes it easier to access video recording with 4K. This in turn has a higher zoom available, but still lacks the expected 4K @60fps.

The latest version of the Google camera with the version number 7.4.104.313422365 has been released and brings a practical change to the user interface: The option to switch the video recording to 4K, which was previously hidden deep in the settings, is now located directly in the quick settings. The switch between Full HD and 4K can now be carried out very easily using a switch. As can be seen in the following screenshots, the frames-per-second selection is still unavailable when the switch is flipped.

Despite technical feasibility, Google Camera still does not support 4K videos with 60 frames per second. For this, external solutions still have to be used. If 4K is activated for video recording, the maximum zoom increases on the Pixel 4 smartphones, which can enlarge the image up to 8 times. This is made possible by the telephoto lens of the Pixel 4 and is therefore only possible with this smartphone generation. The update will be rolled out immediately and should reach all users within the next few days.
